| Microphone Techniques :: | |
| The session will be hosted by Ross Read, the highly regarded independent sound engineer and head tech at the Northern Sound System. Ross will explore the different types of mics available and basic features. He will go into depth about 'Polar Patterns'; what this means and how you work with it. Ross will discuss 'Phase' and the issues with phase alignment specific to the recording situation and the live environment. Most importantly Ross will cover 'Applications and Use' of various microphones. This will be conducted with real examples using drum kits and amps, and there will be heaps of time for direct questions from the audience. |

| Presented By Ross Reed from NSS - During the live mixing session Ross Read; the highly regarded independent sound engineer and head tech at the Northern Sound System will explore the art of engineering from the ground up. Starting with 'PA Choice' and 'EQuing' and moving through the 'Stage Layout' and the position and use of the 'Stage Monitor/Foldback' system. Ross will also discuss at length the issue of 'Controlling the Band' and the sound coming off stage to eventually explore the desk and techniques to achieving that "sweet" final mix. As always there will be lots of time for direct Questions and Answers. |

| Introduction to Garage Band :: | |
| During the Introduction to Garage Band session Mark Kruszynski, the key Garage Band facilitator for the Anglicare Connections Program will take participants through a lecture demo session on the abilities of Garage Band. The aim is to allow 'Mac' owners to get just a little more our of the program than first meets the eye and will cover the use of real instruments, connecting interfaces, importing audio tracks, key changing and mixing. Lots of time will be allocated to Q+A with some hands on opportunities. |

| Travis Renshaw; the manager of the Northern Sound System, will deliver a session on the basics of getting your stage craft right and maximising your performance. He will explore the technical realm and give guidance on easy ways to avoid technical disaster, look at the visual/aesthetic quality and its influence of performance, discuss staging and stage layout specific to band needs and evaluate the all important preparation/rehearsal factor. The session will also let you know the important questions to ask your fans and how to evaluate the show. Q+A at the end will allow specific questions to be answered. |

| How to raise a musical child: from baby to preschooler :: | |
| Parents and their children under five years-old are invited to an interactive seminar in which Carol Biddiss will share her ideas for communicating musically with young children while demonstrating them with the children present. She will suggest ways of enhancing children's skills in listening, singing, playing small percussion instruments, moving to music and dancing. Her work with children is playful, engaging and respectful of each child's unique personality and needs. Carol bases her work on recent research that confirms what music teachers have long claimed - that every child is a musical child and that learning music in childhood actually increases chances for social, emotional and academic success. Be reassured that you are the most important teacher in your child's life and have fun watching all the little ones make music. Biographical Note Carol Biddiss Dip T, B Ed, M Ed Carol Biddiss is the director and founder of Musical Child. Carol has a masters degree in music education, a background in junior primary teaching and the South Australian Music Branch advisory service, has designed tertiary music courses and taught music to children, adults and student teachers for over thirty years in school, college, university, community and private studio settings. While a lecturer at the University of South Australia, Carol was invited to write arts documents as a member of the writing team of the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA) Framework. The South Australian Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) has also commissioned her to write distance education programs in arts. |

| This seminar will provide a practical introduction to reed design and manufacture, and a series of tips and tricks that will provide significant benefit to all level players of saxophone and clarinet. The relationships between instrument, mouthpiece and reed will also be discussed with reference to historical developments and international differences. With greater understanding and a few basic skills, reed preparation and maintenance can become a regular part of your practice and routine allowing you to take your playing to new levels.
